FISHING REPORTS: (for even more information, check out the FORUM page)

Lake Gogebic fishing has slowed in the past few days. Mayflies continue to hatch in small bursts and have caused fish to change feeding patterns. Night crawlers are being trolled or drifted with better success. Small minnows and leeches are still producing near structure but the bite has slowed up. Enjoy the finally summer weather, and keep fishin’…

Lake Gogebic’s fishing is excellent! Walleye, Small Mouth Bass & Northern Pike are very active. Good numbers of fish being caught by all. Leeches and small minnows are producing best. A few mayflies are beginning to hatch causing more fish to move over the mud flats. Troller’s will do well using crank baits for these suspended fish. Best of luck…

Lake Gogebic fishing action has been hot!!! Only a few slow days but most all anglers are getting fish. Small minnows and leeches continue to be the very best baits. Night crawlers have improved using bottom bouncers trolled in the mud flats along with stick baits behind planer boards. Bass are beginning to thin out near the shorelines and Walleyes are picking up near the green weeds in bays along with the Perch. Best of luck and keep fishin’.

Lake Gogebic fishing has been a roller coaster ride again for a few days. Fish are moving to all types of structure with weed beds greening up and windswept shorelines attracting fish. These scattered fish being caught throughout the lake with no definite pattern. Leeches and minnows are producing best for Walleye with Smallmouth and Northern taking artificial or live bait. Some nice Perch continue to show up in the weed beds in the bays. Best of luck!!!

Lake Gogebic Temps on Tuesday evening dipped to 38 degrees, shutting down the bite quickly. Today’s temps are predicted to be 70 degrees and rain. The good news is that the Smallmouth have moved up and the bite has been excellent, along with Crappie action in the bays. Some keeper size Walleye numbers have improved including some nice Northern Pike. Local area lakes are also warming and panfish activity has increased quickly also. A lot is happening at the same time so get out and enjoy!!!

Lake Gogebic fishing continues to be active with lots of short Walleye. Sorry, not to much has changed. Perch action has improved in the bays near upcoming weeds. Smallmouth activity is increasing. Use twitch baits such as X-raps or jigs tipped with a leech or twister tail. Walleye continue to be scattered as we move toward the summer patterns. You will see fish from 6ft in upcoming weeds to 30ft depths on bottom bouncers. Drifting the mud flats or even trolling boards for suspended eyes have all been producing some fish. Best of luck…

Lake Gogebic fishing has been good, however most fish being caught at this time are undersized Walleye. Good action but not many keepers. Small minnows even Crappie size minnows are working best just to tip your jig. Leeches are also working well below slip bobbers. Bass activity is still slow. Temperature are cool again!!! Best of luck…

Lake Gogebic fishing has been up and down in the last few days. Normal routine with fronts moving thru. Best action continues to be seen in 20 – 24ft using minnows and leeches. Excellent quality size of Walleye from 16 – 22” continue to be caught along with those pesty 13” to keep us active. Perch action has picked up some in the bays along with Northern Pike. Smallmouth Bass have been slow to move up to shoreline structure. Despite cold water temps, some anglers are producing nice sized smallies but just not large numbers of them. Congratulations to Terry Peterson of Wakefield, MI, who registered a tagged fish and won $500.00!!! Reminder, June 7th & 8th are Michigan’s FREE fishing days. Take a kid or your family and enjoy the sport for free. Bet of Luck

Lake Gogebic fishing continues to be excellent! Anglers are boating fish all over the lake. Cold water temps have kept the best bite on minnows and leeches. Smallmouth Bass season opens today, May 24th, but cold water temps are keeping fish from moving up to spawn so don’t expect any hot action yet for you Bass fisherman. But temps are on the rise. The Lake Gogebic Chamber Spring Walleye Tournament was a great success with lots of excellent quality size fish caught. First place went to Dave Fletcher of Rhinelander, WI with a 24” 4lb 6oz Walleye down to 10th place, Joe Jaeger from Wausau, WI with a 21” 3lb 3oz Walleye. Congrats to all winners, which can be viewed on the Chamber website, at www.lakegogebicarea.com. Thank You to all the anglers that participated to make this event possible!!! Spring Walleye anglers should keep in mind the Chamber also has a fall tournament, Sept. 5,6 & 7, 2008. If interested, you can print an entry form off of the Chamber website. Keep Fishin’ and best of luck!!!

Lake Gogebic fishing opener on May 15th was a hugh success! A wonderful day with temps near 70 degrees. Fish seemed to be scattered with large females moving to deeper structures. Males provided great action in some area’s from 4-10ft depths. Minnows and leeches were producing best. Night crawlers and trolling seemed a bit slow. Action improved quickly on Friday with a front moving in. Excellent catches from 4’ to 24’ everyone was getting fish. The Chamber of Commerce Spring Walleye Tournament began today with nice weather and nice quality fish being registered. Suckers and fatheads are working best today jigging or drifting. Temps have cooled down and a stiff NM wind has pushed a lot of anglers off the water or to more protected area’s of the lake. Anglers can still enter contest which ends Sunday at noon CST for a chance at $1000.00!!! Best of Luck…

Lake Gogebic ice left us last Saturday, May 3rd. Lake ice and cool temps have delayed the Walleye spawn. Good numbers of fish are spawning right now. With the May 15th opener quickly approaching, expect good numbers of post spawn fish near shorelines or near the first breakline. Northern Pike and Perch have completed spawning. Smaller erea lakes have seen some early Bluegill action near warming bays. These fish will not be on beds for several weeks yet. WALLEYE TOURNAMENT MAY 17th & 18th, 2008!!! Contact the Lake Gogebic Area Chamber of Commerce at 1-888-464-3242 for more info. Remember to sign up at local businesses for the chambers tagged fish contest with prizes up to $1000.00. You will need to purchase a button for $3.00 to enter. The Chamber also gives away 4 Rod/Reel combos every month, May – Sept for the largest Perch, Smallmouth Bass, Northern Pike and Walleye registered at participating businesses around the lake! Best of luck and keep fishin’…

Lake Gogebic’s water levels continue to rise and has opened up most of the shoreline area’s. Temps in the 70’s have also destroyed most of the main lake ice to UNSAFE conditions. Travel is not recommended! Opener is May 15th!!! Also the Chamber of Commerce Spring Walleye Tournament runs May 17th and 18th. Call 1-888-464-3242 or visit www.lakegogebicarea.com for full sign up info. Think Spring and keep fishin’!

Lake Gogebic ice travel has improved. Some snow on ice yet but most of the water has drained down. Excellent foot travel, ATV’s and snowmobile are OK, however access at shore is limited in certain area’s. A lot of the shoreline has water between shore and main lake ice, which is safe. Use caution and check locally before heading out.

Lake Gogebic has a good solid 20” min. of good ice! Recent mild temps have turned snow cover to slush. Expect poor travel conditions thru the weekend. 3” to 12” of water and slush on top of the ice depending on the area. Some shoreline area are beginning to open near creeks and rivers. Temps are forecast to cool off, so conditions should improve more by next week. Best of luck!

Lake Gogebic ice conditions remain excellent! Recent heavy snows have caused slush below. Snowmobile travel is your only option at this time unless you are walking out. Fishing pressure has been very light, but we expect ice to hold on , so you should have plenty of time to fish those JUMBO PERCH yet this season.

Lake Gogebic fishing pressure has been light, but conditions are excellent!!! The 2 1/2ft of ice is holding tough and travel is good. Recent 8 – 12” of snow will hamper those with ATV’s. Plenty of opportunity for those Jumbo Perch yet before ice out. Panfish action continues to be good on surrounding area lakes. Remember, new license required as of April 1st. Keep Fishin’

Lake Gogebic conditions remain excellent. Travel is good for snowmobiles and ATV’s with some areas of the lake causing a few troubles with ATV travel due to drifting snow and soft conditions. Night temps are below freezing with daytime near 40 degrees. Te Perch bite has improved some with a few nice catches coming in. Wigglers and Spikes are both producing fish. Reminder that April 1st, anglers must purchase a new fishing license. Best of luck and keep fishin’…
